The Court's ruling in depth
The Court held that the individual right recognized in Heller is 'fundamental' and therefore incorporated against the states through the Fourteenth Amendment. Chicago's handgun ban fell. McDonald opened state and local firearm regulations nationwide to Second Amendment challenge.
